Blogtember Days 1 & 2

Hello there! For those of you who don’t know I’m Juliann. I grew up in California, went to college in Oregon and 6 years ago packed up and moved to Texas. I’ve built a life here with good friends, who I now consider family, and a dream job I didn’t even know how to dream up!

A few more specifics about me-13227677_10100816781754921_972065330500600837_o 13716187_10100857828297321_1450750571759806007_nI have a dog. She’s an all white Siberian husky. And she’s pretty spoiled. Although She’s almost gone up for sale a few times for destroying my things, I wouldn’t trade her for anything.

14124368_10100880733929251_6701147688707191272_oI’m a mom to a whole bunch of teenage boys, so I’m learning the world of football, tying ties, and the best way to not have your house smell like gross boys.

10675_10100525938751631_2744128066841476576_n (1)Sunrises and Sunsets are some of my favorite things. The Lord paints some beautiful skies here in Texas and I take tons of pictures to share the beauty.

And the most important thing about me? I love Jesus, and I strive to live my showing his love to everyone I meet.

My goals for the month are simple. 1. Start running again and be able to run 1.5 miles easily. And 2. Participate in at least half of the blogtember prompts.

You Gotta Run Run Run

This afternoon after I got home from work I made myself get into work out clothes and head to the gym. I was  going to gut out a 2 mile run even if it killed me. You see I haven’t consistently worked out since before our 10k in February. It’s been hit or miss since. And in the last two months it’s been more miss than hit. I haven’t run in at least a month, if not more (it might actually be closer to 2 months). And the longer I kept going without running the less and less I wanted to run. I knew the longer I went the more stamina I was losing, and the harder it would be to start running again.

I think sometimes we approach our relationships with the Lord this way. We are spending time with Him consistently, growing in our relationship with him, able to spend more and more time in His word, in prayer, in listening. And then we miss a quiet time here, and then another one there. And soon we getting less and less consistent with our time with Him. We let other things get in the way, we don’t make it a priority. We know the more time we choose not to be consistent with our time with Him the harder it’s going to be for us to start again. We’ve given the enemy that foothold in our lives and he doesn’t want to give it up that easily. The enemy doesn’t want us spending time with the Lord consistently, so he tries his hardest to keep us away whenever he gets the chance.

My 2 mile run tonight didn’t kill me. Yes it was hard. Yes I got a stomach cramp. Yes it was tiring. Yes I wanted to quit after 5 minutes of running. Yes it was hard to push through the cramps, and wanting to quit. But was it worth it? Yes. Did I rediscover my love of running? Heck yes. Despite the pain, despite being tired and being short of breath, I was rekindled with my love of running. Even as I fought to focus on the sermon I was listening to instead of focusing on not being able to breath or my stomach cramp or how much time had gone by, I still realized how much I’ve missed my running times. How much good it does for me.

I think the same thing happens when we start spending time with the Lord again. Is it hard to focus? Yeah sometimes. Is hard to make it a priority again? Yeah sometimes (even though it shouldn’t be). But is it worth it? You can bet your bottom dollar! Do we rediscover our love of the Savior? Do we rediscover our love of His word? Do we rediscover that He is worth it? Do we rediscover why we so desperately need consistent time with Him? Yes, yes we do to all of those things!

So if you are struggling to spend time with Him consistently. Or if you are in that place where it’s been awhile and you know it will be hard to start again… Just start! Rediscover your love of the Savior and your intimate time with Him! Don’t just walk to Him…. RUN RUN RUN into the arms of LOVE

Summarization Skills!

Happy Monday! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! I’m here today to work on my summarization skills in the form of a weekend recap! Oh goody! Y’all ready? Alright lets go!

Friday night- I parked my hiney on the couch and watched way too many episodes of Hart of Dixie… Guess that’s what happens when you house/dog sit the weekend before and get hooked on a show… Also I realize this now broadcasts to the world that I’m pretty lame! But I would say that watching Hart of Dixie is a step up from cleaning on a Friday night, which was the actual plan for the evening…

Saturday- Gutted out a 5k on the treadmill (first run in 2 weeks/ate way too many cookies on Friday will make running hard). Did the cleaning that I didn’t do Friday night. And then headed off to hang out by the pool with good friends for the afternoon, and then went to a BBQ that evening! And no summer BBQ is complete without watermelon! And this one did not disappoint! I LOVE watermelon!

Sunday- Went to Church! Where we played this song! We hadn’t played it for a couple of months. Not only is it a really good song, it’s also one of my favorites to play! After church for lunch we had roast, carrots, mashed potatoes, gravy, and bread (oh and green beans, but who cares about those 😉 lol). Then I went home and watched some more Hart of Dixie.

I met Laura, Lynne, and Lila at Ikea around  5. And the next 3ish hours were spent wandering around. And let me tell you spending 3 hours at Ikea is the right way to do it! You look at everything. You dream of ways to use everything you are looking at. You eat. You enjoy each other’s company.

If you didn’t look at everything how else would you find this adorable dish towel and realize it would make the cutest pillow (Kudos to Laura for that awesome idea!)dish towel

Also if you didn’t look at everything how else would you find out that you needed this adorable elephant print??elephants2

Answer is… you wouldn’t! So next time you go to Ikea grab a couple of friends, and a very cute and fun 5-year-old to go with you. And make sure to look at everything!

That’s How I Do!

“What do you do?”

This is the question I get asked most by my family and friends in California and Oregon… And I have a hard time answering them. So I guess here is an answer for all of them and you and me!

1. Foremost to quote the new Matthew West song… “Hello my name is child of the one true God!” And I strive to do everything He has called me to do!

2. I do laughter… and lots of it!

3. I do love… and lots of it

4. I do running4

5. I do church

6. I do silly lost dog

7. I do quote movies in almost every conversation I havemovie quotes

8. I do water… and sweet tea (only like once or twice a week though)

9. I do books

10. I do life!

I Guess I’m Blessed Wednesday!

blogbutton2.2I’ve got my thankfulness cap on and I’m ready to go! Are you?

First up- I am so thankful that I serve a risen Savior! Jesus conquered sin, death, hell, and the grave! He rose again! And because of this one day I will get to be with Him in Heaven! So thankful and blessed by Him paying my debt! There is so much more within this. The fact that He was fully human, and felt everything we feel. That He even loved us enough to come down into the scum of humanity and live so He could sacrifice His life on the cross for us! We are so blessed!

Second up- 1strunbackSee this? This is my first run in 5 and 1/2 weeks…. We didn’t go far, and we didn’t go real fast… But it felt good nonetheless… Well except for realizing I lost a lot of stamina in that 5 and 1/2 weeks. Even still, I am thankful for this run! And I’m thankful that as of right now I have no pain in my foot. So I think I’m good to go! And for that I feel blessed!

And third- I’m thankful for the storm we had last night! For multiple reasons. 1st the animals at the zoo yesterday knew it was coming and they were in a feisty mood. The rhinos were fighting with each other, the giraffes were cantering around and kicking, and the zebra was kicking at the giraffes when they got too close. It was fun to see them all in a playful mood. 2nd we needed the rain! 3rd I got to fall asleep to the sound of thunder, and rain!

And here are some honorable mentions- reading books aloud, neighbor dinners, blue wine, mac and cheese, BBQ Pringle’s, and curly sexy hair spray mousse.

Ya… I guess I’m Blessed

Rodeo Run And Now

So remember a long time ago when I talked about the weekend going to rock because of the Rodeo run?? And Remember how I kept making mention of our 10k… Ya well that happened almost 4 weeks ago… And I just realized I never posted about it! Say what?? I know terrible blogger status right there…

Ok so here are the deets… (I can’t believe I just said deets, instead of details… forgive me please!)… February 23 was the Rodeo Run… And we decided to do the 10k this year… For some crazy reason… But we did it!!!! We both ran the entire way! Lydia finished in 1:07:07 and I finished in 1:07:37

It was a course with hills but for the most part we felt pretty good throughout. There was 1 hill around the 4 mile mark that was killer, and then the final hill which was at probably the 5.5 mile mark was a little hard. But we made it through! The ending was a little confusing though. They had the 5k finish first. Which I kind of remembered that it was going to be that way from looking at the race course, but then Lydia started the final kicking push for that finish, so I thought well maybe it is our finish, so I kinda started to follow her… Only to realize that it was the 5k finish. So I slowed up, because I realized we hadn’t even hit the 6 mile marker. And I can’t sprint for very long. But Lydia kept going at a speedier pace. So that’s why she finished 30 seconds before me. Which I am totally ok with. Because really the only part I hate about races is the last part where everyone sprints… I LOATHE sprinting, like really loathe it… So I like to wait until there is only 0.2 left of the race before I start sprinting. Whereas Lydia likes to start once she catches sight of the finish line, crazy girl!
Rodeo RunSo this picture was obviously taken way after we finished, hence why the clock says 1:50. But we figured we needed a picture with the finish line before we left! So there you have it! Our first 10K

But since the rodeo run… I haven’t done anything exercise wise… Shocking I know… But I somehow hurt my foot during the run. I don’t know when or how… But that evening it was killing me to walk… And it hurt all the way until last week. When I finally made a dr appointment is when it quit hurting… of course… Short story is, it was probably a small fracture… And it’s healing… But starting today I am getting back to exercising!! (with dr’s permission) Now don’t worry I’m not running yet… I’m just going to hop on one of these bad boys

And I’ll probably start doing all my strength building exercises for my legs as well… I’m going to hold off on running for another week to two weeks, maybe longer… Just to be on the safe side!

But by the time I go to California, ya know in 20 days, I should be running again… So the #20 thing I’m excited for about my trip to California???? Taking a run around my parents neighborhood. Running around there is always fun…. Because my parents still live in the house I grew up in. So when I take a run I usually go on the same streets I used to ride bikes down with my best friend and her sister. I see houses of people I went to elementary school with. All the memories of the 18 years I lived in that neighborhood come flooding back. And it makes the run that much more enjoyable!

Comments Welcome!

Happy Monday! I hope y’all had a great weekend! I know I did. Our road-trip was a blast! And it was so good to get out-of-town for a bit and see some new sights! My wanderer’s heart was satisfied for sure! And I’m real excited to share all about it with y’all, but we didn’t get back till 9 last night and we went right to bed so we didn’t get a chance to upload our pictures. So until we get a chance to do that I’ll just leave you with a little sneak peek from my phonemission4Forgive my finger in the picture in the bottom right… Also does anybody know which Mission this is?

There are many more pictures, and words to come!

But today I wanted to share with you a playlist I am starting to compile. You see Lydia and I have our first 10k  in 12 days! And normally when we run we listen to podcasts. But when you run in a race there is too much going on, and too many people around to really listen to the podcast, and at least on my phone it’s hard to hear them. So for races we switch to music. To be on the safe side I would like to have an hour and a half of music on this playlist. We will probably run the 10k in a little over an hour, but I want there to be extra music in case we want to skip a song or whatever.

So here are the songs we have so far on this playlist.

1. Run by Sanctus Real. It’s off their new album that came out last week and the chorus goes like this “You’ve gotta run run run into the arms, You’ve gotta run run run into the arms, You’ve gotta run run run into the arms of love.” How perfect is that? Also it’s a pretty uptempo song so that makes it even more perfect!

2. The theme song from Space Jam. You can listen to it here if you have never heard it or don’t remember it. It’s upbeat, fun, and who doesn’t want to remember the movie Space Jam on a run!

3. The Glee version of We Found Love… I downloaded the Glee version after I saw them do it on the show and had put it on a playlist a while ago. Turns out the beat on it is one that encourages me to keep running.

4. Move by Mercy Me. My friend Laura told me awhile ago that this song was on her gym playlist. It’s a song that tells you to Move, so it fits!

5. Moves Like Jagger/Jumping Jack Flash, the Glee Version. Was a huge fan of Glee doing this mix-up. And again like We Found Love it became a good power-up/keep running song

6. Trouble by Taylor Swift… It’s T-Swift and an awesome song… Enough said!

7. Eyes Open by Taylor Swift. Y’all probably remember me blogging about this song. I once listened to it on replay for 45 minutes on the elliptical… I know I’m weird.

So those are the 7 songs we have on our playlist at the moment. So I would love it if you would click on the comment button underneath this writing and leave some suggestions of good up-beat fun songs that you find help motivate you while you are running, working out, or doing whatever! Thanks!

I.G.I.B #6

Why hello there! It’s Wednesday! And that means it’s “I Guess I’m Blessed” with Stormy Normy time!! As always feel free to join us by leaving a link to your post in the comments!

This week I’m changing up my style a bit. I’m going “I Guess I’m Blessed” Wordless Wednesday style. I’m going to let the pictures do the talking about the things I’m thankful/grateful for, or blessed by. So without further ado…

What can I say…. I Guess I’m Blessed!

To Ten Million Fireflies…

Ok so maybe not Ten Million…. But there were over 2000 people who did the firefly run! We were three of them! It was a pretty fun run. It would have been more fun had the course not had so many street lights lit up. But I know that wouldn’t have been too safe.

It was 2.96 miles according to my nike+gps app on my phone, so a little shorter than a full 5k. And we ran it in a little less than 28 minutes according to our timing chips from the race. So we did pretty good I’d say!

Our next race is in February. And instead of doing a 5k we are moving on up to a 10k… 6.2 miles… So we will be running for around an hour straight… Fun stuff! We don’t have that much further to go to be able to do it though. Because on our good days we can probably run around 4.5-5 miles. We’ve just never pushed that far because we had things to do and needed to get done with our run, or we just didn’t feel like it. But starting probably sometime this week we will be pushing further and further!

I Guess I’m Blessed #4

Holla! It’s “I Guess I’m Blessed” Wednesday! With the lovely Stormy Normy (whose post is already up, so click on her name to go read her post too!) and myself. Like always feel free to join us, and just leave a comment directing us to your blog so we can pop on over there too!

Alright let’s get down to my Attitude of Gratitude!

Sometime on Saturday morning I lost my licence. Aka that means a trip to the good ol’ DMV… Now I know what you are probably thinking… “If you are trying to have an attitude of gratitude why are you mentioning the DMV” or “Honey the DMV and gratitude don’t even belong in the same sentence”… And most times I would agree with you…

But I am thankful for the DMV… Say what?… Yes you heard me… I’m thankful for the DMV. Because that’s where you get your license that enables you to drive legally! And I am very thankful for the ability to drive a car… Cars make life a little easier… And for that I’m thankful…

Also I’m thankful that the DMV’s I’ve been to here in Texas have chairs for you to sit in while you are waiting to hear your number called… It makes the wait time not so bad since you aren’t standing for most of it.

What else am I grateful for?

The right to vote! I am grateful I live in a country where I get a say in who will govern us, on what bond measures get passed, on amendments to constitutions, etc.

The hill at the park we run at… Because while it may stink going up… Going down allows me to breathe deep to catch my breath so that I end up being able to run farther.

Leftover Canadian thanksgiving food! Yum!

My eyes finally accepting my contacts again!

Sweet tea.

And so so so much more… I guess I’m blessed.
