Hello there! For those of you who don’t know I’m Juliann. I grew up in California, went to college in Oregon and 6 years ago packed up and moved to Texas. I’ve built a life here with good friends, who I now consider family, and a dream job I didn’t even know how to dream up!
A few more specifics about me-I have a dog. She’s an all white Siberian husky. And she’s pretty spoiled. Although She’s almost gone up for sale a few times for destroying my things, I wouldn’t trade her for anything.
I’m a mom to a whole bunch of teenage boys, so I’m learning the world of football, tying ties, and the best way to not have your house smell like gross boys.
Sunrises and Sunsets are some of my favorite things. The Lord paints some beautiful skies here in Texas and I take tons of pictures to share the beauty.
And the most important thing about me? I love Jesus, and I strive to live my showing his love to everyone I meet.
My goals for the month are simple. 1. Start running again and be able to run 1.5 miles easily. And 2. Participate in at least half of the blogtember prompts.
I’m a bit behind on blogging about trips I’ve taken lately… In order to catch up I gotta take y’all back to September of last year.
You see I was missing Lydia big time. So I started looking at plane tickets to Washington. Found some good flights for October and was texting Lydia about it. It didn’t end up working out for October. But when October hit I knew I needed to get up there.. So I booked some tickets for November. Yes that meant I would go to Washington and then shortly after head to Cali for thanksgiving but I didn’t care. I needed to go!
We didn’t do much while I was there… It was cold, so I spent most of my time under a heated blanket turned on high with Daphne in my lap. But it was nice. So here are some pictures from the trip.
So here we are finally at day 4! Our last day out on the road. We had talked about maybe making it to Yellowstone on this trip. But as we were going we kept talking about it and had looked up hotel prices and just decided it wasn’t going to happen on this trip. But Lydia had promised that I would see a buffalo. So when we decided against going to Yellowstone I told Lydia she still had to make good on her promise.
So as we set out on day 4 we were googling bison ranges and things of that nature. We found one outside of Missoula. It’s a drive through park where you get to see lots of buffalo and other animals as well. So we took the detour to go to that. I will say it was well worth it! But not because I got to see buffalo. There were a few small hikes you could take throughout the park and on one of them you get to the top of this little hill and the view off the side was AMAZING! No joke, it was one of my favorite views from the trip. It really just took my breath away. I had it as my phone home and lock screen backgrounds until recently. I could have just sat and looked at the view for hours.
As you will see from how many photos are about to follow, and like I said yesterday in day 3.2 Montana was gorgeous to drive through. I was in awe most of the time. It’s one of those places I want to take an extended vacation to so I just enjoy the beautiful scenery. This is the view (the above picture) mentioned earlier. I can’t even express how beautiful it is, or why I’m so in love with it! So the Washington State sign is on the left side of the highway and there is nowhere to park to get out and take picture… We also didn’t realize it was going to be on the left side until it was too late. So this is the only picture we got of it, and it’s not even that good lol.
We got to Lydia’s house around 8pm that night if I remember correctly. The next two days were spent at Lydia’s house. We hung out with her family, went on multiple walks, went horseback riding, and she showed me around the town. Then I had to say goodbye to Lydia and Daphne and fly back to Texas, which was a very sad day!
Thus ends the roadtrip from Texas to Washington that we took back in June! Thanks for reading along and looking at all the pictures!
Welcome to the 2nd part of day number 3. We packed a lot into our 4 days on the road and it’s been hard to get through one full day in one post.
I ended the last post heading to Devil’s Tower. So that’s where we will start this one. We hiked around the base of the tower and then ate lunch at the bottom in the little cafe there. We stopped at the border between Wyoming and Montana to take pictures. Then we drove and drove. At one point we were entertaining the thought of just driving through the night to make it all the way to Lydia’s house. We had stopped in Billings and there were little to no rooms, and the rooms that were available were like $200. We saw a sign for a smaller town up ahead and called the hotel there to see if they had room. They did so we drove there and stayed the night. So glad we did because that gave us another day to sight see on the road. But that will be in another post :). Enjoy the pictures from day 3.2 Why yes there is a random guy in the picture… Sometimes when you ask nice people to take a photo you get random people in the photo as well 🙂 Daphne really wanted to go after the prairie dogs. Montana is so pretty. I could not get over how beautiful it was. This will be more believable when I share the photos from day 4, our final day, on the road! Be back soon!
As you know I’ve been sharing pictures from my roadtrip from Texas to Washington back in June. See Day 1 Here, and Day 2 part one Here. My last post left you halfway through day 2. I needed to split day 2 up because I was already at 20 photo’s for the morning and first part of the afternoon. So here is part two.
We made it into South Dakota. We of course stopped to take pictures at the signs. We decided while driving into South Dakota that we were going to stop at the Badlands and go through the park. So that’s where we headed. As we were going along we started seeing these signs for the Petrified Wood Gardens. They were every couple of miles and then every mile and then every 500 ft and so on. If you’ve ever been to Texas and seen the billboards for Buc-ee’s then you can kinda imagine what these were like, except they were hand painted. We figured it was a lot of hype for something not that great but we decided stop anyway. It was a smaller mom and pop run business that didn’t live up to the hype of the signs, but was still worth the stop.
After we stopped there we got back on the highway and headed to the Badlands National Park. We paid to get in and as we were driving to the first scenic turnout, Lydia and I are asking each other whether we think this place is going to be worth the money it took to get in, not that it was that much, but we had no idea what we were getting into. So we pull into the first turnout and get out of the car and literally we were both knocked on our butts with the beauty of what we saw. We both looked at each other and said even if this is all there is, this was worth it. If y’all ever find yourself in South Dakota make sure you visit the badlands. It’s worth the trip!
Because we hadn’t researched what it was and all that, we only had limited time in the park. We got their later in the afternoon and had only been snacking on animal crackers and costco’s pub mix since breakfast. We also needed to make it to Rapid City at a decent time to get a hotel. So we were pretty rushed through the park.We would have loved to have hiked more than we did in the park, and spent more time at each spot. But we did enjoy it nonetheless. I have to say it was probably one of the favorite parts of the trip for both of us.
So here are the pictures… Warning there are a lot… They were just sooooo pretty I couldn’t help but share! And just know that the pictures really don’t do justice to how beautiful it was.
Day 2 of our roadtrip found us waking up in Kansas and a huge storm passing through. Thankfully the worse of it was in Wichita and we only had a side of it in Salina. We waited for it to pass a little bit and for a break in the rain, once that happened we made a break for the car… Of course right as we got out the door it started pouring again. So we got pretty soaked loading up but that’s ok.
We drove and when we got to the border at Kansas and Nebraska we crossed the street to take pictures at the Kansas sign since we missed it the day before as well as taking pictures with the Nebraska sign. It was really windy so don’t mind my crazy hair in those photos.
We covered a lot of ground this day, we spent that night in South Dakota, but as I was going through photo’s I was already at 20 photos to share before even making it to South Dakota and the Badlands. So I’m breaking this day up into 2 posts. The photos are from all morning and early afternoon until we hit the South Dakota border. This is where Daphne spent the majority of the trip 🙂 We have lots of pictures of her right here but she just looks so cute sometimes you have to take a picture Again please don’t mind my crazy hair. It was so windy out.
I live on a ranch in Texas and across the street are lots and lots of corn fields… But in June when we took this trip our cornfields in TX were close to 6 foot already and almost ready to be harvested… Here are the cornfields in Nebraska in June… It was a crazy difference Daphne found Nebraska to be very, very boring
We saw this church while driving from a ways back and decided we needed to pull off the road and go take pictures of it. So pretty. Of course Daphne had to get in on the action and see why we were pulling over We saw the sign for the NE national forest and decided to pull off to stretch our legs a bit and let the dog get some energy out. We didn’t go too far into the forest because right as we pulled off they had this pretty little lake area to walk around so that’s what we did. The rest of Day 2 will be posted sometime soon! The rest of Day 2 is one of both Lydia’s and my favorite parts of the trip! Stay tuned…
Since I can’t seem to publish a real blog post I figured I could at least bullet point some new things in my life since the last time I blogged.
Christmas break for the kiddos was tiring… I was so thankful when they went back to school… To be fair we had a cottage sponsor take us out on fun outings multiple days in a row, and my work had gotten money donated for the break and had multiple events, and neither of those things are normal…. But still kinda scared for summer
With that said I’m trying to take less naps during the days I’m working… Once summer comes they will be non-existent. Plus there are much better things I could be doing with my time.
I started a new read through the bible in a year plan (although I’m like a week behind right now) it’s a context plan. It’s been good so far.
I moved from the staff house into a cottage. It’s only been a few days so can’t judge yet. Tomorrow is the first morning the boys will be up before me so we’ll see how that goes. And my first off days while living here are starting Saturday…
I have a friend from P-town who is teaching overseas in Germany and fell while rock climbing and had back surgery and doesn’t have much feeling in her legs. But she is a rockstar and is praising God through it all. Check out her blog here and also you can get regular updates on her Post Hope Page.
I’m thinking as a birthday present to myself (yes I know it’s a little less than 8 months away) I’m going to get a dog! There are other reasons why I’m waiting until then other than just a birthday present to myself. But that one sounds the best lol.
I think that’s it on new stuff. Hopefully I’ll be back soon to write a meaningful post soon. Until then… I miss you all!
It’s Monday…. And I definitely was not ready to get out of bed this morning when my alarm went off for work… boo! I had a wonderful weekend, and was sure not ready for it to be over… But alas it is… So let’s recap!1. The weekend started out with the final day of puppy sitting! Jess and Laura weren’t getting back till super late Friday night/early Saturday morning. So I stayed Friday night at their house again. Ruby wanted attention and was being super stubborn/not listening, ya know typical puppy behavior, so I finally told her that bad dogs don’t get rewarded and right after I said that she lays down and rolls over and smiles like the picture shows. I’m so glad I had my phone in my hand so I could capture it. It was too funny. Needless to say she got attention after this, but only because she calmed down as well!
2. I’ve been re-watching the entire series of Greek since June… It’s been slow going. Haven’t had much time to devote to it/needing to devote my free time to more important things. But this weekend I finally finished the last season… So good!
3. I went home Saturday morning! Finally home! I counted the days up that I was actually home in July and it was 14 out of 31… And of those 14 days at least 3 of them were getting home around 10:30pm going straight to bed to be back up and gone at 6:20am, so do they really count… Only slightly. But because I was home I got to sit on my couch and read! It was glorious!
4. Rainbow sherbet… So good! May have had way too much of it this weekend… But it was so refreshing and good!
5. What I wore to church. The wedges are new so I thought I would get some use out of them! And the shirt= the softest fancy t-shirt I’ve ever owned. And best part about it… it was only $3! It was on clearance from Walmart! I had on a coral necklace that you can’t see in the picture as well!
6. So since my roommate finished the bar exam on Thursday, and I was finally home we got to spend time hanging out! We haven’t spent too much time together in the last 3 months, with her studying for the bar and me being gone all the time. So we pigged out on rainbow sherbet, and kettle corn. And we watched Mr. Hottie aka Josh Duhamel on the screen! We had seen Safe Haven in theaters but we wanted to watch it again! It’s a good one!
All in all a wonderful weekend! What were y’all up to this weekend?
So I’ve realized I’m bad at vacation recaps here on the blog… That’s why I haven’t blogged and I’ve been back since late Monday night… Mostly I try to write them, and then I get bored writing them… So I think if I’m bored writing this, aren’t people going to be bored reading it? And my answer to that is always yes! So then I don’t want to write them… Maybe I should learn to summarize more… But I like to explain things… So then my summaries turn into full on stories… Anywho… With all that being said… Here is my attempt at a Summarized California Recap!Wednesday evening- Best friend time! We went out to eat dinner and have a drink. I got a hypnotini (hypnotic, pineapple juice, pineapple rum, and vodka) she got a rum and coke, they were both good! And we got delicious food! All the while talking about life and catching up and enjoying being face to face!Thursday- My mom and I went shopping! Ate In’n’Out. And had a good day together. We hung around the house that afternoon. Had dinner with my dad that night, and I watched some tv with them that evening.
Friday- Was going to have lunch with Normy, but of course everything that could go wrong at work for her that day did, so she wasn’t able to get away. So I grabbed a subway sandwich and headed off to Morro Bay sooner than I had planned. It was a wonderful drive over to the beach! I met up with my parents and my brother and his fiancé and all the people already up there for the wedding the next day. My mom and the girls were dipping cake pops in the frosting. That night my parents, Brendan, and I went to dinner with my aunt, uncle, grandma, and grandpa. It was a good time, and lots of laughter was had. When we got back to the campground I went and watched the sunset! And man was it pretty! Then after that I sat around the camp fire with some of our camping family and my uncle serenaded us with His guitar (I haven’t heard him play in forever, so I thoroughly enjoyed it!)
Saturday- Filled with everything wedding! Got up showered, went to the house to get my hair done. Got dressed. Went to the beach for the ceremony. Then we rode the trolley over to the brewery for the reception. The reception was a really good time! I varied my time between family, camping family, and friends. Got to hang out with precious little Sawyer, and dance with him. And just all around had a good time on a beautiful day outside celebrating Scotty and Heather!Sunday- Got up way early to head back to town for Church. Had another wonderful drive back, so beautiful! Enjoyed worshipping the Lord with the Westside family. The sermon was out of Daniel, and enjoyed learning some history in there as well! After church I hung around and talked with people there. After that I went to Dani’s birthday party! Hanging with the Reyna/Wammack clan was a good time! Then that evening I went to Sal’s for dinner with my parents! Ate some delicious chips and salsa, and chili verde! Mmm so good!Monday- Got up, got ready, and then my mom and I headed over to Sierra Running Company so I could take a look at their selection of running shoes. Found a pair I liked so I got them. Then we headed over to have lunch with my dad. We went to Mimi’s Café! I sure do love that place as well! They have amazing food! After saying goodbye to my dad my mom took me to the airport. And after saying goodbye to her I walked in checked my bag and went through security to wait for my first flight. Got delayed in Denver for 2 hours, but finally made it home and crashed!
Good Morning! Before I get into what I’ve been blessed by/thankful for this week… And before y’all read any farther…. Take a moment and think of some of the things you’ve been blessed by/thankful for this week!…………….. Got them? Good! It’s always good to put on attitudes of gratitude, even if only for a moment.
First up this week is this blog post/rant and the conversations it has spurred… Between Chad and I, and also the conversations I’ve had with my roommate about it. It was a good reminder for me because my focus had not been coming into the presence of God in church. By focusing on other aspects, and I need to do this, this and this, or serve in this way I was unintentionally forgetting that church needed to be about coming into the presence of God, and worshipping in the midst of that. And the conversations that have been spurred because of this post/rant have been fruitful I would say. Bouncing questions and ideas off each other, causing the other person to think. It has been fun! To add-on to these discussions the chapter of the book Mrs. Nancy and I are going through in our study this week related to these discussions. So it was cool to add another dimension to them. So I’m thankful for the reminder for my own life, and for the fruitful discussions that are developing out of it.
Next up is a little bit silly but still…. I’m thankful that lots of people have donated and continue to donate money to make the Veronica Mars movie happen!!!! I am so excited about this! Like busting a gut excited! I love VMars… Like really love… As in I rewatch the entire series usually once a year…. And every time it ends I get sad because it leaves you on some pretty big cliff hangers, and because there is no more VMars left. So I’m excited to have a better ending and just that there will be new VMars to watch! It shall be interesting!
I’m also feeling thankful that it is now 21 days until California!!!!! I’m grateful that in 21 days I’ll get to see these cute faces!
Now I know I share this picture a lot… But I just can’t get over how cute they are!… And that folks is how you combine a countdown with an “I Guess I’m Blessed” post!
